A delightful Provencal house which is for rent throughout the year, situated in the hills inland from CANNES (30 mins) and NICE (40 mins) overlooking the medieval village perche of CALLIAN and within a ten minute walk from the centre of the village. The entire house faces south-west with truly superb views over the valley where between the wars the farmers grew flowers for the perfumery industry in Grasse. This is still a very rural view with white cherry blossom, irises and wood smoke in the spring followed by open field views with cows and Arab stallions and changing woodland colours in summer and autumn. The sunsets are really amazing every evening in time for that quiet drink on any of the terraces. The area is renowned for its mild climate and boasts 280 days of sunshine a year.
The prestigious golf course of Terre Blanche is easily seen on the opposite hillside facing the house and is a 15 minute drive away. On a clear day you can see the Gulf of St Tropez between the dip in the hillsides. There are also countless other championship standard golf courses within easy distance. The Lac de St Cassien is 15 mins away with sailing, pedalos and water bouncy castles! Lakeside restaurants not recommended! The local markets are a must to visit and the best is in Fayence on a Saturday am. The road running through the palin below has all the shops that you should wish for including local vegetable and fruit markets and local foie gras!
The upstairs comprises of three double bedrooms, sleeping six people and has one cot. From every window be it bedroom or bathroom there are truly spectacular views. Both the en suite bathroom and the main family bathroom have double sinks and separate showers. The third bathroom is downstairs and is a large wet room area with shower, toilet and basin. There is a door leading to the upper terraces, pool and garden from the upstairs hall.
The downstairs is a lovely open, airy split level space with an entrance hall, downstairs toilet, salon and then up to the kitchen and dining area. Through the kitchen is the garage, wet room/toilet and laundry with two washing machines.
The salon has a large flat screen TV with satellite and hugely comfortable raised open wood fire for chilly out of season evenings and plenty of logs outside. Wi-Fi Internet access is also available throughout the house. The kitchen has a large American fridge/freezer. The whole house is kept to a very high standard and comes complete with all linen, kitchen machines and china etc. BBC etc is of course one hour later in the South of France.
There is a small covered kitchen terrace with table and chairs running off the kitchen and then countless other areas for eating al fresco. A favourite is always under the large umbrella and around the circular wooden table (seats 10 comfortably) relaxing back into the large wooden armchairs tasting local delicacies and copious wine!
The pool is up on a quiet terrace above the house and there are 8 sun beds and an additional sun shade. The pool is a salt pool which is so much kinder on the skin than chlorine and has a summer cover if one wishes to retain the summer heat over night. The garden is very Provencal with medieval terraces filled to over flowing with oleanders, roses, lavenders, mimosas, irises and many olive trees. The view from the very top is just breath taking. Various benches are dotted around to enable guests to have a quiet solitary moment if they so wish.
The medieval village of Callian is one of five all in a row in the valley and an absolute gem to walk around and spend time in La Place for a quiet meal or drink. There is a supermarket, tabac with UK newspapers, pharmacy, butchers, boulangerie and several simple restaurants. There is also a Tourist Information office. Wandering around the tiny little passages and roads with dappled sunlight floating over the terracotta tiles, cobble stones and cascading geraniums is an absolute delight.
A gardener, pool man and cleaner attend weekly to prepare the house for each set of clients.
